That is not hypothetical. That is the situation across Singapore's listed company landscape right now — and the direction of travel is only one way.
STI constituent companies are already required to report Scope 3 from FY2026. All other SGX-listed companies are on a voluntary timeline for now — but banks, insurers, and major supply chains are already requesting ESG data from their partners and suppliers, and companies that cannot demonstrate credible ESG practices risk losing tenders, financing, and market access.
Voluntary today does not mean optional forever.
Here is what the standards are actually asking for — and it is less intimidating than most teams assume. ISO and the broader reporting frameworks are not demanding perfection in year one. Secondary data is not automatically disqualifying, but it has to be evaluated, stated, and defensible.
What regulators and auditors are looking for is where you are today and a credible yearly roadmap toward fuller compliance — not a finished answer, but a traceable trajectory. Most mandatory regimes start with no to limited assurance, and the trajectory is moving towards limited or even reasonable assurance. The staircase is built into the standard.
The problem is that most companies are still building the first step. Spend-based industry estimates stacked together in spreadsheets, with no actual supplier engagement, is not a starting point you can defend or improve from. That is the gap.
MOYA Analytics' Cascade gives companies real supplier-specific emissions data — without the conflict-of-interest dynamics that make Scope 3 gathering nearly impossible. This makes your disclosure built on primary data you can defend today and improve on a schedule you can show tomorrow. Traceable, auditable, and designed for the roadmap regulators are actually asking for.
